Welcome Dennis Pulley as District Governor of 6W.  His idea of “Together We Succeed” is a very good one.  I intend to continue the idea next year, Act 2.

Lions Clubs in 6W have really embraced the Centennial Challenge.  From the reported information almost 3/4 of the clubs have participated in at least two of the four areas: Vision, Hunger, Youth, or Environment.  Please continue to do great things for your community and have the Club Secretary report them monthly. We still need to better publicize our projects and why they are undertaken.  Projects do not just happen magically, Lions plan and perform; we may forget to tell non-Lions those facts.

All volunteers have interests that are probably being met through Lions Club projects.  Getting those interests addressed may mean adding an activity previously not considered.  Remember for the turtle to move forward he/she must stick her/his head out of the shell.  Even to look around the head must be out of the shell.  Take a chance, look around, there may be a needed service that a non-Lion is passionate about and would work diligently toward in your club as a member on a pet project.

Colorado Lions know we live in the Centennial State.  The decision to have a single combined Districts and State Centennial Convention in May of 2017 has been made and plans are underway for a celebration that will not be repeated in the lifetime of any present Lion.  Time within the convention will include opportunities to see what and how other Districts are handling a variety of activities and projects.  As of now each District is planning a service project to be completed at the convention, yes you will be asked to participate, not merely donate.  The idea is to have fun, to find out what is going on in other parts of Multiple District 6, and to come away wanting to attend another combined convention, hopefully closer to home.  Wait, Denver is as close to many 6W Lions as Cortez was last April.

Respectfully

1st VDG John L Ballagh

On behalf of International President Joe Preston, I am pleased to share with you that Lions Clubs International’s Board of Directors has approved a special pilot program to waive the charter or entrance fee for U.S. Veterans of all ages.

The Involve a U.S. Veteran program is being offered only in the United States. The program waives the charter or entrance fee for any qualifying veteran who joins a new or existing Lions club between July 1st, 2013 and June 30th, 2015.

Eligible veterans include retired U.S. military personnel or honorably-discharged members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard Services, Marines, National Guard, Navy or Reserves.  Those currently serving in the National Guard or Reserves are also eligible.  Lions Clubs International will provide an entrance fee waiver of $25 ($30 for charter members) to the first 5,000 qualified U.S. veterans that join a local Lions club.

Veterans have made so many great contributions and sacrificed so much to serve our country.  As service members are honorably discharged from the military, let’s offer them an opportunity to get involved in their communities.

Click below to learn more about this special program.  You’ll find a program fact sheet, promotional flyer, certification form and a sample press release you can use to promote this program in your community’s news outlets.

Veterans Day is November 11th, just two weeks from today.  Make plans now to reach out to veterans in your community and offer them the opportunity to make a difference and change lives as Lions.
