“Whoo –o-o-o-o We are the Lions”
“Whoo –o-o-o-o We Serve”

This is the chorus of a song written for our 2017-2018 International President Dr. Naresh Aggarwal.  The International Theme for this year is “We Serve”.

As Lions we are asked to improve the lives of more than 200 million people per year by 2021.  The new service framework consists of:

Diabetes – participate in the District wide Diabetes Tag Day; be present at the November Cabinet Meeting for the Parade of Cheques, etc.

Pediatric Cancer – assist a family in the community by driving them for appointments; volunteer at the children’s ward in the local hospital, etc.

Environment – plant trees in your community; recycle pop or beer cans and turn the money over to a Lion’s project, etc.

Hunger – bring a canned food item to a dinner meeting and donate all to your local food bank; provide a Seniors Dinner at no cost, etc.

Vision – collect used eyeglasses and forward them on so they can be sorted and shipped to a 3rd world country so they can bring sight to someone who cannot afford glasses; have the club buy eye glasses  for someone in your community that really needs them, etc. and do not forget about an annual donation to District A-1 Sight Conservation Foundation (Eyes Right).

Focus on Youth – start a Leo Club; encourage high school students to participate in club projects to earn their volunteer hours, etc.

All of these service projects or fund raisers cannot be accomplished unless we work together as a “TEAM”.  Together we can accomplish so much whether at the club level, zone level or District level.

As we look forward to the next 100 Years, we must also encourage fellow Lions to become Committee Chairs, be a member of the Board in their own Club or even perhaps become a Zone Chair or think higher to even be a District Governor.

Training is available on-line and the sky is the limit all you have to do is reach for it.  Let us make this next Lion’s Year the best ever!
