GOVERNOR
LION GERRY BERTRAND

Lion Gerry was born and grew up in a tiny community in Northern Ontario called Connaught. 

Once settled in Sudbury Lion Gerry volunteered with the March of Dimes, the Heart and Stroke Sudbury/Manitoulin chapter, Heart Health Coalition of the Sudbury and District Health Unit, Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival and finally in 2007, joined Lions.

He received the International Presidents Commendation Award in 2010, the Judge Brian Stevenson Award, for outstanding achievement and contribution to Lionism, the International Presidents Leadership Gold Medal and is a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Lion Gerry is married to Lion Catherine a member of the Sudbury Teachers Lions Club; they have 6 children and 9 grandchildren between them.

1st VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR
LION KIM GROEN

Lion Kim was born on Manitoulin Island in 1959 which makes her a “HawEater”.

She graduated from Cambrian College in 1982 from the Medical Laboratory Technology program and began work as a bench technologist in the hospital in Blind River. She became the department manager in 2001 and now looks forward to her retirement in August 2014.

Lion Kim was married to the X-ray technician, Leo Groen from 1987 until his death in 2004. She found her second hubby Lion Gerry Green in North Bay, at the District A-5 convention in April 2006. Lion Kim has 3 step-children, 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In November 1998, Lion Kim joined the Blind River Lions Club. She immediately
became involved with Lions projects and has held every position on the Board of
Directors since then. Lion Kim was honoured as “Most Deserving Lion in Zone 31E” at the 2002/2003 District Convention. Additionally she has been named Lion of the year twice by her own club.

She has been involved on Cabinet from 2007 to 2014 as Environment Chair, Zone Chair and Region Chair.

Outside of Lions, Lion Kim is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was
president of the ladies auxiliary. She enjoys playing golf, graphic arts and hold ’em poker and enjoys her visits to local casinos.

Lion Kim is honoured to be your 2nd Vice District Governor for 2015-2016.

           DISTRICT A-5

 2ND VICE DISTRICT GOVERNOR STEVEN OLSEN

Lion Steven is the Youngest of 4 children.  He was born and raised in the small community of Warren.  He graduated from Ecole Secondaire Catholique l’Heritage in Sudbury in 1993.

He married his wife Sylvie, on Valentine’s Day in 1998.  They have 2 wonderful children Mathew and Renee.

Lion Steven joined the Warren & District Lions Club in January 1999 and has been an active member ever since.  He served as President in 2005 & 2011.  He also served as Zone Char in 2014-2015.  He has chaired numerous projects such as the Snowflake Festival, weekly bingos, senior’s supper and many more.

Lion Steven received:  The Helen Keller Fellowship Award in 2010, the Melvin Jones Fellowship in 2011, the Queens Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the LFC Lifetime Membership Award in 2015 and he has also been named Lion of the Year twice.

Outside Lions, he coached minor hockey for 9 years and has been on the Markstay-Warren Minor Hockey Committee for 3 years. 

He enjoys spending time with his family, especially at camp swimming, fishing and hunting.

Lion Steven is always looking forward to new challenges and believes in making a difference in his community, province, country and around the world by helping those in need.

Lion Steven is truly honoured to be your 2nd Vice-District Governor for the year 2015/2016.
