Lions Clubs International of District 46, located throughout Nevada use the Welch Allyn Spot Vision Autorefractor to perform vision screenings on anyone, starting at 6 months of age!
The machine checks for the following conditions: Myopia (nearsighted); hyperopia (farsighted); astigmatism (blurry vision); gaze deviation/asymmetry (eye misalignment); anisocoria (equal pupil size); anisometopia (lack of balance between each eye's ability to refract light); and amblyopia (lazy eye).
Lazy eye is the reduced vision in one eye caused by abnormal visual development early in life. The weaker — or lazy — eye often wanders inward or outward. Amblyopia generally develops from birth up to age 7 years. It is the leading cause of decreased vision in one eye among children. The Lions KidSight USA 6 to 6 program is aimed at lazy eye in children ages 6 months to 6 years.
