ZC Sharon Cain sharoseh43@gmail.com 250-540-8270 A NOTE FROM YOUR ZONE CHAIR - SHARON CAIN It is so exciting to see the clubs in our zone working together. The North Okanagan Lions Clubs zone project “Your Vision is Our Vision” took place in October and November and will continue in spring 2023. The Vernon Lions Club were busy at eleven SD22 schools and three Independent schools. Lumby Lions screened children in Cherryville, Lumby and Lavington. A total of 1535 children were screened with 117 children being referred to an optometrist for further examination Armstrong Lions and Enderby Lions will be screening the children in SD83 in the spring. Enderby, Lumby and Vernon Lions - Lumby Lions President Mike Takahashi and Vernon Lion Mike Smith delivered 20 boxes of used eyeglasses (about 4700 pairs of glasses) to Day & Ross Trucking Company in Kelowna. These glasses were collected from Vernon, Enderby and Lumby Lions. Day & Ross Trucking delivers the used glasses free of charge to the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) in Calgary where they are sorted, cleaned and refurbished for needy countries around the world. DATES TO REMEMBER: May 4-7, 2023 Northwest Lions Leadership Institute April 28-29, 2023 MD19 Spring Convention, Vernon Prestige Inn LOOK WHAT THE CLUBS IN OUR ZONE HAVE BEEN UP TO: LAKE COUNTRY/WINFIELD LIONS CLUB Lake Country-Winfield Lions have been busy this fall. We also completed the installation of the Winfield Cemetery Sign. Special Recognition to Lion Alf Lincoln and John Fiwchuck for their dedication and determination to complete this project over the past year. The signage is a Community Feature of which we can be rightfully proud. Our projects for December include the Community Christmas Light-up in Memorial Park on December 10. Christmas music will feature carols with the JC Garcia Band, a warming bonfire, hot dogs and hot chocolate, and the traditional visit from Santa. Funds raised at this event and the Lions Christmas Dinner and Auction on December 14 will go to the Lake Country Food Bank. Our objective is to donate $1,500 to the Food Back this Season. LUMBY LIONS CLUB As we reflect back on 2022, the Lumby Lions are proud to support our small community through donations and volunteerism. In the spring, we hosted the community Easter Egg Hunt and the Lions Campground opened for another busy season. In the summer, the Lions hosted the Lumby Days Beer Garden, the annual Senior picnic and provided bar service to many community events. In the fall, we hosted the Santa Toy Run and participated in the Vision Screen Program at Cherryville, JW Inglis and Lavington Schools. We also hosted a community Halloween Party and participated in the Remembrance Day Ceremony. As we head into December holidays, the Lumby Lions will "ring the bells" for the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign and continue to provide support to children, seniors and individuals requiring financial support. What a huge job it has turned out to be and will require at least one more day of scrubbing. We would welcome volunteers from other clubs as well. Nov 12 - The Charity Poker Tournament chaired by Lion Ron saw 93 players and 12 volunteers at an evening of fun and fundraising. A huge success. Look for more tournaments in January and April, 2023. Proceeds will help build a ramp at Lakeview Pool – an original Lions project. Nov 17 – ZC Sharon Cain led the induction ceremony for new member Dianne McIntosh sponsored by Lion Eric Reckhard. Welcome to the Vernon Lions Club Dianne. Nov 24 – Distributing the fruits of our labors to the community WE SERVE. Nov 26 - What a great night serving hot chocolate to the many people who came down to the Carnival of Lights event.
