Spring Cabinet - 28 April 2023 Lions Foundation of Canada. THE DIFFERENCE - $7.5 million has been raised in support of The Difference campaign with $1.8 million from Lions' clubs across Canada. Not all disabilities are visible to others but that does not make them any less important to recognize and accommodate. For example, some physical disabilities may not always be noticeable, as well as disabilities related to medical conditions like epilepsy and diabetes. According to Statistics Canada, one in five Canadians over the age of 15 has a disability. The most common disabilities were related to pain, flexibility, mobility and mental health. Having a Dog Guide gives increased awareness to someone’s disability. Once people see one of our dogs wearing their red jacket, a handler’s invisible disability becomes visible. Dog Guide clients have reported that people are more patient with them and understanding.
