District Governor Debbie Allan Editor Debbie Bostock dandballan@telus.net DG Thoughts: Wow! It is February already. Happy Valentine’s Day to all! As the weather improves, VDG Michael and I will be starting to travel again to complete the visits to all the clubs in District D. Brian and I look forward to our travels, with March seeing us cross the border into Washington to complete the visits in that area. I think we make three trips down in March with a couple of more in early April. Let’s hope the weather holds and there will be no last minute cancellations. Our membership in the District is on an up and down swing. Since July 1st, we have increased our numbers by 80 members. However, our District has lost 99 members in the same time period. We need to look at the reasons behind the loss, some of which are due to members passing on, but why are other members leaving? Are our clubs stuck in doing the same projects over and over not allowing for new projects, are we changing our executive in our clubs each year to give newer members a chance to step up or are our members aging faster than we are bringing in younger members. These are some of the things that clubs need to look at. Service Reporting is increasing in our District and I would like to thank all the clubs that are reporting what they are doing. If you need assistance with reporting, please do not hesitate to reach out. There are lots of Lions that are very knowledgeable in reporting service that are willing to help. Our final District D Conference is planned for April 28th and 29th in Vernon BC. I hope to see as many of you there as possible. The committee is working hard to provide something for everyone. The theme this year is “Lions Family Reunion”. Just like any family reunion, there will be people you haven’t seen for awhile, some you have never met before, and some you may know of but haven’t actually met. Come out for training, friendship, and a chance to meet some of the new members of the Lions family. Congratulations to our newest Leo’s Club: The Logan Lake Leos Club was chartered on February 8th, 2023. I look forward to meeting these new Leos and welcome them to our Lions family! DG Debbie PDG Mark Mansell, a member of Ocean Park Lions Club, and serves as the GMA (Global Membership Approach) for MD19, shared the following ‘Growth Checklist’ at our recent district ‘setting goals’ Zoom led by VDG Michael Livingstone. I am copying part of the list here, for your consideration to adopt parts for your club. Annual Club Membership Growth Checklist: Members are prepared for the club to grow: 1. Every member has a membership application. 2. Every member has a service project list / club brochure. 3. Every member knows the process of joining. 4. Every member knows how much it costs to join. 5. Every member knows how long it takes to get our ‘Lions gear’. (name tags, etc.) 6. Every new member promptly receives a meaningful induction and orientation. 7. Every service project has membership applications, club brochures, and service project list available. 8. Every member knows who our club’s membership chairperson is. I will post more of PDG Mark Mansell’s lists next month. Together with 9 other community groups we have partnered to build a community building to house all of them collectively. The Hub is a very ambitious project and will require a great deal of funding. The attached web link provides detail on the project. Hopefully club members may be able to support the fundraising activities outlined on the website www.peachlandhub.ca/ MESSAGE FROM YOUR CABINET VISION CHAIR Together, CLERC and I, are trying to put together a list of eye glass collection locations throughout our cities and towns within our District. I need your help Please email to me all the locations that each of your clubs have an eye glass collection box. Many people call CLERC in Calgary and ask for the locations for collection boxes nearest to them. We are working on creating a data base of collection sites within each town, and District. If each club could shoot me a quick email outlining where your collection boxes are located, I can collectively forward that info over to CLERC in Calgary. Thank you so much for all you do. Inspire others through Service Karen kb1@telus.net DISTRICT CONFERENCE INFORMATION Our conference is coming up on April 28th and 29th. We are still working on the program, but I can tell you we will have a President, Vice President & Director panel and a Secretary, Club Administrator and Service Chair panel. One will be Saturday morning and one Saturday afternoon so you can take in both if you wish. The District Cabinet Meeting will be at 1 pm on Friday afternoon. If Past International Director Justin arrives on Friday morning we will work in a panel with him Friday afternoon following the cabinet meeting at approx. 2:30ish. We will have a full program out in the next bulletin. We are looking forward to seeing you at our Lions Family Reunion. 2ENVIRONMENT Hello District ‘D’ January has been pretty good to us. Now is the time to make our plans for the 2023 Spring season. What are we going to accomplish, what do we want to accomplish, what do we need to help us to accomplish our goals? I look in my back yard and see pruning, raking, repairing, reorganizing and of course recycling. All these things seem daunting now but as our weather improves and we get more sunshine, our energy level will increase and our enthusiasm will explode forth!! Good luck with your planning, 90% planning, 10% delivery. My feature this month is a work of art and renewing. I visited the Logan Lake Lions Club last fall, and they gave me this creation constructed by a local resident who is very skilled at creating this airplane by recycling a soft drink can.
