DG Thoughts: As we head into a new year and a new District, we need to remember that we are still going to continue to do the great work we have always done. This is a great time to add new members, take on new projects, as well as continue with giving our donations to CARE, LCIF, Guide Dogs/Leader Dogs, and all the other great causes we support as Lions. I want to thank all the clubs that have submitted their dues and remind those that haven’t that they should submit their payment ASAP. Also, thank you to all clubs that have been doing their MMRs and reporting their service. We are working hard on creating a great conference that will have something for everyone! There will be fun, training, and fellowship and I hope that all clubs will have members attend. This will be our last conference as District D and I know that as we move on to being District I we will continue to support our communities and our conferences. I am working on setting up dates to visit the clubs that Michael and I have not met with yet, so if we have not been to your club, or we have not set up a date yet, you will be hearing from us soon. The purpose is to prepare your club for new members because we want to sponsor, induct, and educate successfully. We want new members to become lifetime Lions. Select a membership chair and team if your club does not have one. Does your club have a ‘heart’ for building membership, do existing Lions feel they are an important part of the membership team that supports new members? Do they acknowledge things in the club may change, and are prepared for that to occur? All club Lions have the responsibility to invite new members, they keep the membership chair informed. Become familiar with the resources that PDG Joyce Stevens sent your club from Lions Clubs International last fall. There are many suggestions for membership growth in those materials. Make sure all Lions are connected to MyLion on the LCI website. If you need help with registering on to the site, please let Joyce or your secretary know. We can lead you through the process quite quickly. Make sure that your club’s social media profile is up to date. Most potential members check out your website, Facebook page, and others to learn about your club before becoming interested in joining your Lions Club. I will add more information next month. There are always other ways to do things! But are they better. We can’t fix everything but we can fix what is in our control so let’s look around and see what we can control, change, modify, repurpose. My goal this year is to find a co-chair or a replacement. If anyone is interested please contact me. Let’s make 2023 a Delightful year. If it’s Broke, Reuse It A new life for your busted C-clamps NEVER THROW anything away. That, it seems, is the work shopper’s mantra. To the untrained eye, a broken C-clamp is garbage. A busted C is the heart of a shop-built vertical bench clamp. All you need do is find a foot of 1 ½” square steel conduit, cut a slot near the top to accommodate the clamp, then bolt or pin the C-clamp in place. Next, drill a series of holes through the shaft so you can use it in an opening drilled in your bench. A pin in the hole above the bench top stops the clamp from falling through, and a pin in a hole beneath the bench holds the clamp firmly in place. Your environment chair Angus Benedict CARE CARE stands for Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere, but the organization simply goes by CARE.  CARE works in 87 countries around the world to support over 900 poverty-fighting development and emergency projects.  Through CARE, MD19 is helping provide meals and snacks in schools in Haiti to decrease hunger among children and increase school attendance.  CARE Donations We are halfway through our fiscal year and to date District D has contributed $500.00 toward CARE.  The goal for MD 19 is $40,000; currently 36 clubs have donated a total of $10,995.   What if! What if each member gave $5.00 each for their birthday month?  What if the DG challenged all presidents to donate $25.00 and donated the same amount?     What if the club had a dedicated fund raiser for CARE? What if we challenged all clubs to promote Gordon F Smith Fellowships?  What if we skip going for coffee once in a month and donate those funds to CARE? What if we encouraged local businesses to donate funds; for $500.00 they can also receive a Gordon F Smith Fellowship..   STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES, THREATS (SWOT) Hello Fellow Lions: Because of the redistricting I have as a preparation for the big date of July 1 when District "I" comes to life, to do a SWOT Analysis.  All members of the Existing District "D" and "E North", the new District "I" are welcome to join us. The more Lions Club members that get involved the better the potential results are. The Analysis will be done on January 28, 2023 starting at 09:00 AM and going to about 11:30 AM. The Action Plan will be on February 18, 2023, starting at 09:00, Again the more the merrier as the saying goes.  if you are aware of any person that would like to attend please forward the link.
