Many Hands Make Light Work DG Thoughts: Here it is April already. I hope to see as many of you as possible at the final District D Conference. The Conference committee has been working very hard to make this a fun and informational weekend for us. I am sure that you will find the guest speakers they have lined up will be a great inspiration to us all. Our membership numbers are up. I want to thank all the clubs for adding new members to our district. There is still time to add more new members before the end of the Lion’s year. Our service reporting is up, and our MMR’s are submitted each month thanks to the hard work of the secretaries, club administrators, and their helpers, as well.a special thank you to PDG Joyce Stevens for her work with all the clubs on this. Member Kits: I will be bringing some new member kits with me to the conference in case any of the clubs need to pick some up Empty Pill Bottles: Ever wonder what you should do with those empty pill bottles you have piling up? Bring them to the conference and we will get them off to Third World countries so that they can dispense medications in them instead of just handing pills to those who need them. Please make sure that the bottles have been cleaned and no labels or glue are left on them. Camp Winfield Summer Outdoor Sports Equipment: This is our service project for our conference this year. Camp Winfield is in need of some new outdoor sports equipment and we will be collecting this at the Conference to present to them. Please help support this worthy cause. Here is a list of possible items:  Badminton net  Volleyball net - (could be one net used for both)  Basketballs - we have some but they get old and we lose a few each year.  Kids hockey sticks - we have lots of bigger ones but not many little ones  Soccer balls  Portable soccer nets - small ones  Kids bocci set -lightweight balls - we have a regular set  Pool toys are always good as well - noodles, squirt guns, balls, etc. Election of Club Officers: Most clubs have held their elections and submitted their new Officers, but for those clubs that have not yet done this, please have your elections as soon as possible and submit the paperwork. This information is important not only to the incoming District Governor but to the Multiple District and LCI. Please make sure you have updated the information such as dates of meetings, meeting place and contact for each of your Officers. See you all real soon at the Conference! CONFERENCE The date is closing in for our conference. Our luncheon speaker will be from Special Olympics BC Vernon - Leanne Kelly, Community Development Coordinator/Okanagan. We hope to have a local special Olympic athlete join her. Our banquet speaker is PID Justin Faber. 1 DISTRICT D NEWSLETTER District Governor Debbie Allan Editor Debbie Bostock dandballan@telus.net debbie.bostock@gmail.com April 2023 Issue 10 2023-2024 CLUB OFFICER TRAINING REGISTRATION GUIDANCE MD19’s Club Officer Training is geared toward upcoming club officers, and any member can attend the training. When you register, please enter the club position you will be doing during the 2023-2024 Lion’s year. If you will not be holding a club officer position, just designate “volunteer”. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO LEARN WITH US. Your upcoming District Governors are working with their merge committees to designate new zone identifications, so if you do not know your new zone number, just enter your new District: 19-L, 19-I, 19-O, 19-N, or 19-S. Please make sure you identify which primary club you are a member club in…do NOT list “associate” clubs. Please make sure your email is correct as you will be receiving materials prior to and after the training. This class is based on teamwork so the initial materials you will receive are all the Lions Clubs International recently updated club officer eBooks. The success of your club is dependent upon the club officers and membership working together to ensure success of your club…it’s neverabout just one member. The training will include the following sections: Mission & Team Today, Service Chair, President/Vice Presidents, Lions Club International Foundation and grants available, Club Secretary, Club Treasurer (both USA & Canada), Club Board of Directors, Creative Member Recognition, Membership Chair, Public Relations and Communication, Leadership and Teamwork, and Available Resources. The expectation is that you will attend the full session to get credit for the MD19 Training and to be eligible for the President, Secretary, Treasurer or Membership MD19 Excellence Awards. Please forward this information to your club presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, and membership chairs as well as all of your regular club members. Additional files provided: 1. Flyer (in .pdf format) with active links to register for the class. This flyer can be mailed directly to club members. 2. Flyer without links to be posted on Facebook. The hyperlink in the flyer will not work on Facebook. Therefore, a WORD document with registration links for all 3 sessions (Jun/Jul/Aug) is included. Post the registration hyperlink within the text portion of your Facebook posting. This link will work to reg￾ister for the session. All attendees MUST register. If you decide to register one person and then have several members attend with you, please email the pre-session information (received a few days prior to the class) to each person attending within your group. Then please email Sharon Sikes with the name and club officer position for each person attending in your group. ZOOM LINKS FOR 2023 CLUB OFFICER TRAINING SESSIONS 1. That was the beginning of an amazing relationship with our local Tim Hortons that has helped us raise thousands! Every September Tim Hortons runs the campaign and sells the cookies for $1 through their stores. The non￾profit, in this case us, then helps promote the cookies and retains the full dollar from each sale. We set up a table from 8 am to 4 pm throughout the whole week and greet each customer when they come in, tell them about the program and what we are raising the funds for, and then direct them to Tim Hortons. We do four hour shifts of two people, and also collect any donations people want to give. We have a lot of fun talking to people not only about the program itself, but who we are raising the money for, who we are and what we do and generally getting the Lions word out. We have raised money for a young man who had outgrown the hearing aids we initially provided for him (and raised enough to but the current pair, a future pair and make a donation to the local Navy Cadets of whom he was a member), minor sports in the area who were trying to resurrect their programs post Covid, Honour Ranch a safe haven for military and first responders suffering from the effects of PTSD and other mental health issues, to name a few. The average amount raised on each of these endeavours is around $5,000. Our latest one, with a small top up from the club was $6,000 for Honour Ranch! I would encourage any Lions Club that has a Tim Hortons close by to see if they can get involved in the Smile Cookie Campaign. If you do, give me a call and I’ll share how we make it happen.
