Important Update regarding CARE Hello Bob, Patty and Peter,     This is the time of year that MD19 typically requests new project ideas from CARE. I believe your leadership will vote on a new CARE project later in the spring? I plan to share a couple project ideas with you by the end of March. Please let me know if you have any feedback. Thank you so much.   I am also writing to share an important update with you. In the past six weeks since I emailed you at the end of January, a lot has happened that that affects CARE and thousands other organizations in the humanitarian sector. At the end of January, the new administration issued a stop work order on all US government foreign aid. This stop work order created massive challenges and immediately had significant implications on our work, as approximately 40% of CARE’s budget comes from the US government. (The other 60% of CARE’s budget comes from individual donors and organizations like MD19 Lions). Not only were we forced to freeze programs that serve millions of people, but the US government stopped payments on work that CARE had already completed under USAID contracts. The non-payment on completed work created a financial strain for CARE and our peer organizations. This past Friday, we learned that the administration had cut 90% of all US government international funding. CARE has received formal cancelations on the majority of our programs funded through the US government. I am forwarding an email below from CARE’s President, Michelle Nunn, that provides additional context.   Fortunately, the project funded in Honduras by MD19 Lions has not been affected by the US government program closures. The funding CARE receives from MD19 Lions for our poverty-fighting programs in Latin America continues to be so important. We are very grateful for our longstanding partnership with MD19 Lions.   Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions.   Dana Tseng CARE
