DG MIKE’S MESSAGE Dear Fellow Lions, March: In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb March, a month of transition, often enters our lives with a fierce roar, much like a lion, and bids farewell with the gentleness of a lamb. This delightful saying, “In like a lion, out like a lamb,” has woven its way into our cultural fabric, capturing the essence of seasonal change. The origins of this weather folklore trace back to ancestral beliefs. Our forebears held that maintaining balance was crucial—whether in weather patterns or life itself. Thus, if March commenced with tempestuous weather (akin to a roaring lion), it should conclude with tranquility (resembling a docile lamb). Given March’s capricious nature—swinging between spring-like warmth and late-season snowstorms—it’s no wonder this saying resonates. Lions Clubs of District I we are still receiving donations for the rebuilding of the Scotch creek fire hall. We are working with the regional district to see what we can do for the rebuild. At present we have 2 on hold until we decide which one we will need. The complete events schedule has not yet been finalized, however, we do know that we will be doing a Thank You cookout at one of our Parks from 10 am -2 pm on Saturday the 21st. Basically we want to say thanks to our community for supporting the Lions since 1939. The Lions and Guests dinner will be that evening with Happy Hour starting about 5 pm, a catered dinner, some speechifying and live music /dance after. We do not plan to have this be a "formal" event. We do not yet have a ticket price. For any who will be coming on Friday or overnight Saturday we will have some special rates at a couple of our hotels. We are trying to arrange a pancake breakfast for Sunday morning for those who stay over. That takes care of what we have planned to date. More will come. New opinions are always suspected, and usually opposed, without any other reason but because they are not already common. My question to you is do you know of any clubs that would want to Purchase at my cost and use the tables in a raffle to collect money for any cause that is suitable for the organization. I am sending a bit of a commemoration of his value to the club. Also photos of the 3 different tables that I made. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Lions Club. Fred's biggest contribution was his work as a member of the Gravelbourg Lions Club. He joined the Lions in 1967 and served on every position including president (1970-71), zone chairman of zone 2 (1970-71), deputy district governor of region 2 (1972-73), deputy district governor of region 1 (1973-74), as well as district governor of district 5CW (1976-77). He helped charter most of the clubs in the southern Saskatchewan. During his years he became a life member of the Lion International, a life member of the Saskatchewan Lion Heart Foundation, life member of Saskatchewan Foundation of Canada and life member of the Saskatchewan Lion Eye Bank. He also received one of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award one of the highest awards given by Lions International. He was honoured with the Saskatchewan Centennial medal.
