MD19 – DI – Environment Service Submitted by Lion Bernie Jensen, DI Environment Service Chairperson I have had the pleasure of attending two MD19 Environment Service meetings where we shared some ideas and information regarding current and future Environment Service projects. Kamloops Brock Central Lions Club has supported the idea of donating seeds for the local Seedy Saturday event which happened this weekend. I have been exploring several possible projects in the local area including: 1) Pine Park – need for a concrete outhouse that is durable and will not affect the local environment. The estimated total cost is $30,000. 2) Clean up of Knapp weed and other noxious weeds in Pine Park. This would be a hands-on project. I broached the idea of using goats to help with this but it was explained that the local Bighorn sheep population carry a disease that is transferrable to domestic goats although the Bighorn sheep, themselves have a resistance to it and are not affected by it. 3) Clean up of the Tranquille Wetlands with the potential of helping with the viewing deck project which would be a large engineering and financial project. The wetlands are located in the 200-year flood plain so the viewing platform would need to be raised well above that. 4) Helping with repairs and maintenance at possibly up to five local community gardens. 5) Helping financially with the development of the Juniper Ridge grasslands and new park. Respectfully submitted, Lion Bernie Jensen
