If you take pictures while DG Chuck is visiting, please send PICTURE GALLERY The holidays are a time for giving, but for some Lions Clubs, December can also mean a dip in membership. As clubs update rosters for the new year, we see a rise in membership drops. Here's how to turn that trend around and keep your Lions roaring: Reconnecting with the Pack: Encourage Membership Chairs to personally reach out to Lions who haven't been at recent meetings or events. A friendly invite can reignite their connection to the club and its mission. Communication is Key: Don't wait until the last minute to collect dues! Early reminders from Treasurers can prevent unintentional drops due to missed payments. A friendly call can ensure everyone is on the same page. The Next Generation of Service: As Leos reach the end of their program, encourage them to become Leo-Lions! This smooth transition keeps their passion for service alive and strengthens the club. Want to Roar More About Retention? Explore the "Member Satisfaction Guide" for even more tips on keeping your club strong. Our dedicated team at [email address removed] is here to answer any questions you may have. Together, let's make sure December brings joy, not membership woes! Dear friends, The ongoing Canada Post strike is impacting mail delivery across the country, affecting individuals, organizations, and businesses alike. As this is a crucial time for giving, we hope the strike will be resolved quickly to minimize disruptions, especially to donations that help us provide life-changing Dog Guides to Canadians living with disabilities. We do not recommend mailing donations at this time, as mail delivery has been suspended and backlogs are expected once service resumes. Additionally, tax receipts cannot be mailed out until the strike has ended. To ensure your support arrives promptly and you receive your tax receipt without delay, we encourage you to donate online at https://www.dogguides.com/donate/onlinedonations/. Online giving also allows us to email your tax receipt directly. If you’re not comfortable donating online or have any questions, please contact our reception team at (905) 842-2891, and we’ll be happy to assist you. Your generosity during this critical time makes a meaningful difference. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Warm regards, Bev Crandell CEO Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides To: DG Chuck Robinson and the Global Service Team KINDNESS MATTERS AWARD Submitted by Past President Lynda Devenish Fairmont & District Lions Club October 18, 2024 Fairmont and District Lions Club received a donation of nine acres of land, designated recreational and over the past eight years it has become the Lions Wilder Memorial Park, with picnic tables, Memorial Garden and trees, volleyball court, soccer field, pickle ball courts and now a Lions Community Garden. Last June of 2023, Vice President Joy Smith called a meeting of Fairmont residents to see if there was any interest for a community garden. Twenty community members arrived and offered their support. Lion Joy offered to chair the project and the Lions agreed to support the initative. The Radium Community Garden members, shared their knowledge on the garden they had built. The Lions fundraising through recycling and the Golf Challenge would help but more funds would be needed. Lion Joy prepared a costing sheet and applied for an available grant and that was accepted so plans were underway for a spring 2024 construction. Early spring meetings were called with the community, laying out the garden plans and looking for donations. A culvert was donated as well as lumber and gardening tools. As soon as the frost was gone the well was dug, fence posts installed and boxes were being built. The Fairmont community is to be congratulated because they came out in force (about 40) working out of the kindness in their hearts, helping out the Lions, constructing boxes, walkways, a gazebo and a tool shed. It was very heart warming to see the community pulling on the wire for the construction of the deer fence. The garden which is wheelchair accessible with high boxes, was completed in fourteen months with all boxes planted and producing vegetables and flowers. There is a children’s garden to teach them about growing food. The boxes were free this year but will have a fee for next spring to offset maintenance expenses. On July 22nd, the community was invited to the park for a BBQ to celebrate the grand opening of the Lions Community Garden and the Lions Pickle Ball Courts which was last years project completed this July. Guest of honour, RDEK Director Susan Clovechok said, when people see a project completed well and on schedule, they know who to award the grants to. The total cost of the garden was $28,000 with $50,000 in-kind. The garden is presently being put to bed for the winter. There is a waiting list for boxes and there are plans for art classes for kids making gnomes, fairy houses, bird houses, etc. and the Invermere Library’s Story Time in the Park. The Lions Community Garden has proved to be a place for meeting and socializing as well as growing vegetables and flowers. The Fairmont & District Lions Club, who with the help of our forty plus community members, have created a legacy Lions Community Garden and would like to apply for the Kindness Matters Award. We have had nothing but positive comments from our community regarding the Lions Community Garden and the Lions Park in general.
