Summer Cabinet - 31 August 2024 CHILDHOOD CANCER There are about 130 new cases diagnosed in children under age 17 each year in BC. Typically, childhood cancers respond well to treatment and children with cancer have a better chance today of living a longer life than ever before. There has been a steady decline in the mortality rate for cancer of children over the last 20 years. The likelihood of cure depends on the type of cancer and the extent of the disease. Lions from 15 different clubs came together with an LCIF Childhood Cancer Grant and DCG Grant to enhance the visitor center at Regina Margherita Children’s Hospital. By installing five updated intercom systems for each of the five patient-visitor viewing spaces, Lions ensured patients could communicate with family, friends and educators while in isolation. August 2022, LCIF has awarded 4 childhood cancer-related grants totaling US$200, Linda Schaffrick, PZC
