There are about 130 new cases diagnosed in children under age 17 each year in BC. All patients under the age of 17 who might have cancer are referred to BC Children’s Hospital. is the only referral centre for childhood cancer in the province. They work closely with BC Cancer. Survival rates for childhood cancer have improved significantly in the past few decades and many pediatric cancers are treated successfully. There are many types of cancer treatment. The types of treatment that a child with cancer receives will depend on the type of cancer and how advanced it is.
