The Lions Clubs of Zone C, which comprises of the Lions Clubs of Callington, Launceston, Liskeard, Looe, Saltash and Torpoint & Rame Peninsula, recently presented £8,350.00 to Mike Turner of the Cavitron Fund, based at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, being the amount raised by Lions Clubs in Zone C over the past 2 years.

This money will go towards phase 2 of the Humphrey Jackson Top which provides
‘Image Guidance in Spinal Surgery’. This enables spinal surgery to be carried out, and together with the ‘Curve Neuronavigation Guidance System’ allows complex patient data to be loaded and received whilst the surgeons operate. This will allow instruments to be tracked in 3D HD, providing constant feedback as to the location of the tumour in relation to surrounding healthy tissue, and allows the surgeon to approach the tumour through a small corridor, minimising the damage to the surrounding tissue and also the length of hospitalisation for the patient.
Patients come from all over the South West to receive treatment from the most up-to-date neurologicalcentre in the country.
