Camp Lions is a camp that is held for youth ages 7 to 17, who are blind or have low vision or are deaf or hard of hearing. Camp Lions was started in 1957 and has had over 17,000 youth attend. There are three camps that are used, one in the northern part of the state, one in Central, and one in Southern Illinois. This camp is a safe environment for the youth to have fun, and expand their independence and self-confidence through challenging group activities.
This correspondence is being sent to the District 1-L Lions Clubs askin for your support with the cost of this event. The expense per youth is $525. At your next meeting, please ask how your club could help, whether it be sponsor a youth or money towards items on the wish list. The wish list includes the following items:
- eye glass repair kit
- buy spray
- sunscreen
- new Braille books
- new games (old games are missing parts)
- low vision sports equipment
- new balls (basketballs, regular balls, volleyballs, football, Frisbee)
- Art Friendship string, old shirts, mason jars, (make vases), soup cans
- water bottles

- gas cards or cards from Wal-Mart, Target, or other similar stores
