District A5 Governor - Lion Gerry Bertrand

In 2015/2016, International President Yamada has asked that all districts adopt projects that would enhance the dignity of children.

District A5's Governor Gerry Bertrand's chosen project, is the purchase a RetCam for the NEO Kids centre of Health Sciences North. This equipment is a stand alone imaging system, or can be used as part of a network taking pictures of premature and full term infants' eyes for physician evaluation of pediatric ocular diseases and to establish a baseline for future eye health.

Health Sciences North became part of a pilot project in 2008, working under the supervision of Sick Kids.  Replacing the RetCam will ensure the system can be used right away, keeping infants from the district in the district for care.

2014/2015

message from
DISTRICT A-5 GOVERNOR
LION  HAROLD HUHTANEN

Lions, Lionesses, Leos:

The theme for 2014-2015 is “Strengthen your Pride”.

This year, Lions International President Joe Preston asks that all Lions, Lionesses
and Leos, ask “One Person” to join your Lions Club.
Lions International is growing and we, in Canada, are starting to show positive gains
in membership.

The Reading Action Program was such a success last year that the Board has
extended it for at least 10 more years.

Our International President Lion Joe Preston challenges us to increase our women
membership for the coming year.
The “ASK 1” program is a perfect way to increase membership. It is very rewarding
not only to the sponsors, but Zone and Region Chairs and the District Governors
Team, who also receive recognition. Are we up to the challenge? I know I am.

There are so many projects that Lions can be involved with within out District. Peace
Poster Contest, Blind Essay Contest, Effective Speaking Contest and the Memorial
Forest in Iron Bridge. In MDA, there are is Lions Foundation of Canada, Lions Quest
Canada, Lions Home for the Deaf, Lions Camp Kirk, Lake Joseph Centre and Camp
Dorsett. Please remember all these great Lions projects when looking to donate
some funds. We must remember that our own communities, where we derive our funds, are also
very important and should be supported first and foremost.

I would like to remind each club about the Club Excellence Award. This prestigious
excellence award is for clubs that excel in community service, membership growth,
communication and organizational management.
Hope to see as many as possible at our District Convention in North Bay on April
10-12, 2015.

Strengthen the Pride through Service.
Strengthen the Pride through Membership Development.
Strengthen the Pride through Leadership.
Strengthen the Pride by Strengthening your Club.
Strengthen the Pride through Partnerships.
Strengthen the Pride through Rededication.
Strengthen the Pride through Giving
Strengthen the Pride through Creativity.
Strengthen the Pride through Courage and Conviction

I look forward to working with you as your Team Leader.
Let’s show the World what we can do together.

Yours in service
Lion Harold Huhtanen - District Governor A5 2014-2015
