PROJECTS SUPPORTED BY
SUFFOLK COUNTY LIONS DIABETES EDUCATION FOUNDATION
Above picture shows students at the Riverhead School District engaged in a Project Fit America program which the Suffolk County Lions Diabetes Education Foundation supported through fundraising, a grant from Lions Clubs International and a partnership with Peconic Bay Hospital.
Project Fit America teaches children the importance of staying fit to promote good health and is a program that also has a social emotinal learning (SEL) component to it to encourage students to be supportive of one another and deter bullying.
Other Projects worked on include:
- Assisted Long Island Community Hospital (Formerly Brookhaven Memorial Hospital) gain a recognized program for meeting the national standards for diabetes self-management education
- Held diabetes awareness student walks in:
- Patchogue-Medford SD
- Riverhead CSD
- William Floyd SD
- Given approximately $400,000 in grants to the Suffolk County community
