DISTRICT 38-N SPRING MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR JOHN

The weather is always a topic for conversation and the past week has given many of us a lot to talk about. Depending on your location, you had 0.0 inches of white stuff to over 9.0 inches. Such is life in the Midwest.  Stay safe when you are out as ice may be u derfoot.

Midwinter conventions are just around the corner and the District O & N gathering will be March 6th and 7th at St Mark's United Methodist Church in Lincoln Nebraska. Friday night will provide an evening of entertainment and a chance to visit with the International Director Debbie Dawson. On Saturday we will have two Nebraska Speakers, Pastor Tom Barber of the Lincoln Peoples City Mission and Gary Person of North Platte with a motivational message, 'Making a Difference, Volunteers Still Matter.'

Cabinet meetings will be held Saturday morning as well as a service project of packing personal product bags for men and women. Items needed include personal size deodorant, bar soap, shampoo and conditioner, wipes, sunscreen and lotion. Cash donations may also be made to purchase items that are not brought to the meeting.

April will be the third focus event of the year, Environment. Make an effort to find a way to make your community shine with a community cleanup day, collect crayons for the crayon initiative, or find some other way to improve your local environment.

Lions State Convention will be in Kearney, June 5, 6, & 7, start making plans to attend now, stay tuned for details in future newsletters.

The Nebraska Lions High School All-Star Golf tournament will be held this summer in Kearney. Support is always appreciated, when sending checks, mark the donation as “ALL-Star Golf and send to the Nebraska Lions Foundation Treasurer. Lion Vit has been looking for someone to replace him as tournament coordinator/supervisor. If you have a passion for golf and youth, this may be your calling.

Mission 1.5 is still a focus of Lions. If every club could end the year with a net gain of two members Lions worldwide would total 1.5 million members.

Stay warm and remember one thing We Serve!

Great Plains Lions Leaderhip Institute & Faculty Development Institute Announcement:

Two great training opportunities for Lions are available this coming July; Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute (GPLLI) and Faculty Development Institute (FDI). Both institutes will be held at Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas. Cost is currently $220.00 for either institute, but will increase to $240.00 on May 1st.

GPLLI, July 17-19: “Training to prepare Lions for leadership positions throughout the organization. The GPLLI program is customized to best accommodate the needs of the area.” Dynamic facilitators from across the Great Plains will provide emerging Lion leaders with modules on diversity; goal setting; Lions fundamentals; local issues; mission statement; motivation; public speaking; time management; and working in teams.
FDI, July 16-19:  As a train-the-trainer focused institute, the primary purpose is to enhance training delivery skills and training techniques that will increase the quality of training and overall effectiveness of Lions leadership development programs. Given the limited FDI slots, acceptance into the institute is not guaranteed. Each applicant will be vetted prior to final selection to attend the training. Accepted applicants will be notified by the Curriculum Coordinator/Registrar. Applicants not selected will have their course fees returned.
